After 29.5 years, we are home. But coming home means leaving (many) homes. As you know, our most recent home was Chiang Mai. And what a home it was. There, I resumed work on the Kazak bible project which had lain dormat for far too long. There, Michelle helped WEC fulfill it’s commitment to GIS by teaching Grade 4 (her principal was another WECer! What a blessing!) for two years. There, Liberty finished high school and embarked on her own journey when she returned to Canada to start university. There, Van discovered his love of motorcycles and gained much riding experience. There too, our family expanded when we adopted Mishi, our puppy. There, we continued following God in faith despite a drop in our income; God used this to direct us home.
We have landed in Ottawa and have been so blessed to be hosted by some old friends from my university days. It’s a different home-coming in that my parents aren’t here this time. Also, we didn’t go back to Hamilton where we would usually be hosted by WEC at one of their properties. We felt it was important to land where God wants us right away – to start looking for a place to live as well as extra jobs. As you know, staying overseas was going to be difficult with our current support level… which means we definitely need extra income here in Ottawa. It’s a change in WEC mindset to which we were first introoduced in WEC France where most of the WEC workers all had other jobs, and in some cases their only income WAS non-WEC employment. But what this does allow for is us remaining in WEC! This is important since Michelle and I are in fact intending to return overseas after 3 or 4 years.
Now for some good news and updates! We did find housing! Praise God. It was the only place I liked when I was in Ottawa a month ago, and which Michelle and Van liked from a distance, and surprisingly it stayed available this entire time. The one hurdle was that our WEC income was not deemed enough to qualify immediately. That meant we needed to find employment! Both Michelle and I have applied to many jobs, and all kinds, anything to get some extra income. Praise God, Michelle has been hired at a local school to teach… GRADE 4! Exactly her skillset and interest. A position I’ve applied for has had two interviews with me and seems promising… maybe I will find out Monday 29 June*. Please pray! Even Van has applied for jobs! Speaking of Van, he has passed the M1 test and can now ride motorbikes. So please pray as we look for one for him.
*EDIT: I did in fact get offered the position for which I had applied! I start training Monday 6th July! Thank God.
Also…. HAPPY CANADA DAY!
